The fair

My kids had never been to a fair before. Is that a bit weird? Does that make me a bad parent? I guess it’s in the blood, because I never went to a fair with my parents either. But I remember being excited and fascinated by the idea of fairs – the rides, the lights, the candy floss, the prizes… They seemed like the most amazing places. As a teenager I went every year to a big local fair, but then I stopped going to...

The Gallery: A photo I’m proud of

My photography has fallen a bit behind. I used to be a good photographer and have had an SLR since I was 18, but the rest of the world caught me up and then overtook me (I think I can still hold my own in the general population, but in blog world I am WAY behind). There was a small number of speaking parts...

Opening the presents (birthday girl)

We take birthdays pretty seriously in our house, but I don’t think a birthday has ever been quite as anticipated as this one. Not our 40ths last year, not any birthday ever. I don’t know why my daughter decided her 8th birthday was going to be so special and important. But she did. And it was. She started counting down over a month ago. She made a kind of birthday advent calendar that ran to three pages. She made endless...

I’m Loud ‘n’ Proud! Are you?

Being a parent blogger is great – you can have a good moan about all the things that are wrong with your life and your kids. You can turn into comedy if you like, maybe enhance it a little bit to make it even funnier. Or you can get lots of sympathy and useful advice from other parents who have been there, done that and got the Tshirt. But, let’s be honest, life with kids isn’t all bad, is it? In fact a lot of the...
