Parkrun 2020: End of year report

Who would have thought that I could have actually written 2020’s parkrun end of year report in March? 2020 was the year parkrun ground to a halt, thanks to coronavirus. 21st March was the first Saturday in more than 15 year when there wasn’t a single parkrun anywhere in the world. And that situation went on for the rest of the year. In the end, it was possible to run just 13 parkruns in 2020 – including the new...

Parkrun triumphs 2018

It’s been another year of parkrun triumphs for my entire family. Here’s some of our highlights… On 10th January, still not fully recovered from my injury, I came first in my age category for the first time since 5th November. One parkrun, two PBs

In our family, spring seems to be the time of the parkrun PB. Last year, my younger son and I got multiple PBs in spring. My daughter recently got her first PB in two and a half years. These days, she usually only runs with us if the alternative is to be left at home alone, something she really dislikes. She got her PB of 29:31 in October 2015 and has never really come near it since. Her best times in 2016 and 2017 started with a 31 and most of the time she runs 5k in about 35 or 36 minutes. She doesn’t run often...

Parkrun triumphs 2017

It’s been another good few months of Parkrun, not just for me, but for my entire family… On 6th May, my younger son recorded his fourth consecutive PB. He crossed the line in 23:52, his first sub-24 finish, 132nd out of 512 runners, the 116th male and 5th in his age category. He also beat his big brother’s PB by 25 seconds. On 20th May, my younger son got his fifth PB in six weeks. He finished in a very respectable...
