Last Seen Alive by Claire Douglas
Last Seen Alive is the third novel by Claire Douglas, published in 2017. I’ve previously read her second novel – Local Girl Missing. It is the final book I picked up for £1 from my friend’s charity book sale. The other books were Little, Eye For an Eye and Love Untold.
Newlyweds Libby and Jamie can’t believe their luck when they are offered a house swap in Cornwall. Libby has had a recent traumatic experience and swapping their cramped flat in Bath for the large and luxurious house overlooking the sea feels like just what she needs to recover. But then strange things start happening… Is Libby being paranoid or is the house swap too good to be true?
All readers of psychological thrillers know that moving to or staying in a house in a deserted part of the world is ALWAYS a bad idea! Last Seen Alive was actually turning into quite a scary read for a while.
I must admit for a while I thought Last Seen Alive was a bit trashy and formulaic. It seemed to tick all the classic psychological thriller boxes and I half guessed one of the twists.
But then it turned on its head and I started to really enjoy it. There were some big twists I definitely didn’t see coming. In the end, I couldn’t put it down and read it in three days.
If you enjoy a psychological thriller, Last Seen Alive is well worth a read. I will have to look for more of Claire Douglas’s books now.
ooh sounds good. I like it when you get drawn in thinking ah I know how this is going, then it gets tipped on it’s head to point where you can’t stop reading. Older books are sometimes real gems that we’ve missed. I’ll have to look out for Claire Douglas, she sounds familiar but a search on my blog doesn’t reveal anythin.
I’m definitely going to look for some more of her books. I expect they’ve got better since this one, as that seems to happen for most authors.
