Parkrun 2019: End of year report

It’s been another good year for parkrun for our family. This year has seen my mum get back to doing the occasional parkrun (she did a couple in 2016 and hadn’t done it since) and my niece and nephew do their first parkruns. My daughter and younger son did more runs than ever and I literally missed one run all year. My family has also started to do a bit of volunteering. My dad’s 100th parkrun

My dad ran his first parkrun in August 2016. Exactly three years later, he ran his 100th parkrun. My dad was 71 when he ran his first parkrun and he’d never run before. Parkrun triumphs 2017

It’s been another good few months of Parkrun, not just for me, but for my entire family… On 6th May, my younger son recorded his fourth consecutive PB. On 20th May, my younger son got his fifth PB in six weeks. He finished in a very respectable...

The best birthday present

I’ve written many times about how difficult it is to buy presents for the males in my family. But if there’s one person that’s even harder to buy for than my teenage boys, it’s my dad. My dad is in his 70s and comfortably off. If he wants or needs anything, he buys it. He doesn’t have any hobbies which lend themselves to presents (actually, I lie – he does Parkrun now and that’s helped us buy...

Best panto ever

It felt like a long time since I’d last seen the panto. Both my family and my in-laws decided to go to see it towards the end of the run and it had been a long wait to see it again. My younger son hadn’t even seen it at all. But on 29th December, the four of us went to watch with my parents, my sister, my brother-in-law, my niece and my little nephew. As we arrived, an usher asked my younger son how old he was – he...
