Just for the record – Forest of Dean half marathon

This could be the shortest post I’ve ever written, but I wanted to post it for my own record as much as anything.

Anyone who has read my Forest of Dean half marathon post will know how hard I found it. But also that I was very pleased (and very shocked) by my time. When I saw the finish time, I hoped my chip time would scrape in at just below 2 hours.

I found out my chip time today and I’m pleased to say that I came in at 1 hour 59 minutes and 34 seconds!

I am so happy with that time, I just had to share it. Because I may never achieve a time as good again.

I also discovered I came 658th overall (out of 1,077 runners), 147th out of the 382 women runners and 49th in my category (female veterans aged 35-44). Yes, I am a veteran runner!

Veteran runners are cool, though. Three out of the first four women across the line were in my veteran category.

  1. Hey thats amazing! What’s even wierder is that we’ve just returned from a trip to FoD (staying at Welsh Bicknor hostel) where we saw a sign for this half marathon and my OH commented on how nutso hard that would be (this just as we’d finished ascending Symonds Yat Rock!). So well done you! (we live in flat Hertfordshire, btw)! PS I found you through Suzanne at 3childrenandit.

Don’t worry about being a vet, it happens to all of us 🙂

  3. Woo hoo well done! A great achievement. Not bad for a ‘veteran’ (I’d be a veteran too – I think they need to change that world. What on earth would they call runners in their 60s?)

  4. Thanks very much, everyone 🙂
Everyone Else is Normal – what a small world! Your husband was certainly right – it was the hardest race I’ve done, so surprising that it was also the fastest! Suzanne is fab, one of my very favourite bloggers and best bloggy friends 🙂
I reckon the veterans are the best, Lesley and Nell! I quite like being a veteran. There are different categories, Nell – I’m the youngest vet category (I wouldn’t even be one if I was a man!), there is a 35, a 45 etc. So the 60 year old would be in the oldest category.

  6. Ha ha, I did my best to kick its arse! I can probably match your biscuit consumption in Green & Blacks 🙂

  7. Amazing very impressed. Every so often I think I’d love to run a marathon but it turns out I can’t be bothered… Even more respect to those who can! Bee x

  8. Thanks very much! It’s not physically too difficult if you’ve trained, but you certainly need the motivation! Really appreciate you commenting 🙂
