We Solve Murders by Richard Osman
We Solve Murders is the new novel by Richard Osman, which was published in September. Luckily, as Richard Osman is a must-read author for me, he always has new books out in September, which means I can get them for my birthday! After four fantastic Thursday Murder Club novels, this is the start of a new series.
Amy Wheeler works in private security and is currently working as a bodyguard for a famous author. She thinks nothing of shooting, fighting or jumping out of aeroplanes. Steve Wheeler is her father-in-law. A retired cop, he’s just had the clutch fixed on his Corsa and is happy going to the local pub every day and staying at home with his cat. He has his own private investigations business, but will only look into very local cases. His days of travel and adventure are over.
Then a series of mysterious murders of influencers in exotic places begins. The one thing connecting them all seems to be that Amy wasn’t far away when each of the murders happened. Now Amy’s life in danger. She has to ask for help from the one man she really trusts – her father-in-law. But will Steve leave the safety of the pub to help? And Rosie d’Antonio, an author of advanced age, isn’t going to be left behind when there’s fun to be had…
The one person who links Amy and Steve – Adam, her husband and his son – makes only a very small appearance. There are also references to Amy’s tough childhood, but no detail. So we know there’s plenty more to come in future books!
We Solve Murders is another really fun read from Richard Osman, which I binged in three days. It is full of his trademark gentle humour, British quirks and pop culture references. While the characters and settings are different, you can certainly tell it was written by the author of The Thursday Murder Club, which is a good thing from my point of view! Steve certainly reminds me a bit of Chris from Thursday Murder Club.
If you’re looking for a page turner which doesn’t take itself too seriously, you will love We Solve Murders. I’m certainly looking forward to reading the sequel. But I will have to wait a while, because Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim will be making a return next year!
