Parkrun 2021: End of year report

It has been another short parkrun year. Here’s my family’s annual report of achievements. I think it’s an achievement in itself that my family often includes the youngest person (my nephew) and the oldest person (my dad) at our home parkrun.

It was announced in March that parkrun would return on 5th June. Then it was announced on 21st May that it was delayed again, as not enough landowners had given permission for it to return. It wasn’t possible for it to return with a quarter or half of the events, because everyone would just descend on the events that were running and overwhelm them. Parkrun was given a new return date of 26th June. Nearly all of the landowners gave their permission for it to return on 26th June, then the roadmap out of lockdown was delayed and it was put back again – to 24th July.

Before parkrun returned, my niece and nephew started ran junior parkrun, which is a 2k event on a Sunday morning. Junior parkrun came back a couple of months before parkrun. It’s usually for 4-14 year olds, but was restricted to 4-10 years while parkrun was off, again to avoid overwhelming events.

I ran (not)parkrun every single week it was on – usually on Saturday at 9am, but occasionally on Friday if we were busy. My husband ran it most weeks, but didn’t always remember to log his runs, which is why his numbers are so much lower than mine.

(I don’t have everyone’s gender and age category positions as they aren’t marked on the summary stats for each runner.)
