B A Paris is responsible for writing the scariest book I have ever read, Behind Closed Doors. So would I be brave enough to try her latest novel, Bring Me Back?
It’s 12 years since Finn’s beloved girlfriend, Layla, vanished. He has no idea where she could have gone and has always assumed she had died. He told the police the truth about that night, or at least nearly all of the truth…
Finn has finally moved on from Layla and is happy with his new partner, Ellen, and they are starting to plan their wedding. But then he starts to get mysterious emails which make him think that Layla could be back. If she is back, where has she been for all of these years? Would he still love her when he sees her again? And should he tell Ellen about her?
Skipping between the present day and the past, we piece together Finn’s time with Layla and his increasing anxiety over her possible return. Bring Me Back really builds up the suspense. It really makes you question both Finn and Layla – are they really the people they are made out to be, or has Finn done something very bad to Layla?
There are a couple of huge twists which practically made me gasp, although I did vaguely guess the ending.
Bring Me Back is pretty scary at times, but if you enjoy psychological thrillers and books which ramp up the suspense, you should definitely give B A Paris’s third novel a read.
