Project 365 2017 Weeks 32 and 33

It’s been a fortnight of two halves for us. The first week I was very busy with work and the second week we were relaxing on holiday in Padstow.

Here’s our fortnight in pictures…

Day 218 – Sunday 6th August – it’s so nice to have the kids home from Scout camp, even with all the washing! I went for my first eight mile run this year, in preparation for the Cheltenham half marathon in eight weeks time. I felt good in terms of my stamina and ran at a very quick pace, but I felt my long-term ITB injury from seven miles. I’m really hoping it’s just a blip!

Day 219 – Monday 7th August – I picked up my new glasses. They’re varifocals, which makes me feel so OLD! I’m pleased to say that I have no difficulty using them at all.

Day 220 – Tuesday 8th August – it’s sod’s law that I have more work this week than I’ve had in months. I feel guilty at having no time to spend with the kids. My daughter’s necker from camp is still hanging around the house.

Day 221 – Wednesday 9th August – another very busy day of work. Luckily my dad took my younger son to Birmingham to catch Pokemon. My daughter is obsessed with making slime at the moment. She made some with my niece today.

Day 222 – Thursday 10th August – a busy day with work and packing for holiday. In the evening I went to a Cult Screens showing of La La Land at Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire with some of my neighbours. It was my first time seeing the film and I wasn’t disappointed, plus the setting was stunning!

Day 223 – Friday 11th August – we went on holiday to Padstow! It was a pretty slow journey as our car is playing up. The weather was rather cold, but it’s our home from home and we love it.

Day 224 – Saturday 12th August – we were forecast some sun, so we headed for the beach. The sun came and went a bit and it wasn’t what you would call warm, but it was nice to be there all the same!

Day 225 – Sunday 13th August – my husband is also doing the half marathon on 1st October, but has only just started training. We both went for a run along the Camel Trail (he decided to do 12 miles and I just did eight!) and the kids cycled along with us. You can just see the three of them in the distance here.

Day 226 – Monday 14th August – my parents came to visit us on holiday for the first time in a few years. Unfortunately it rained nearly all day! When the rain eventually stopped, there was an incredible sunset.

Day 227 – Tuesday 15th August – the weather was much better and we went to the beach at Rock and played a lot of frisbee.

Day 228 – Wednesday 16th August – I went for a run along the Camel Trail with my husband first thing in the morning, then for a bike ride along there with the family later. Sorry, it’s another photo of me!

Day 229 – Thursday 17th August – we went a walk along the South West Coast Path, which is one of my favourite things to do. The views are stunning! It was by far the warmest and sunniest day of the week.

Day 230 – Friday 18th August – we got up early, packed the car and set off for home at 8am. I felt pretty sad – the week had gone far too fast. It took us six hours to get home, which wasn’t a lot of fun. In the evening I went out with my old friends from work, which was great for cheering me up. I’m cheating with this photo, as it was taken earlier in the week.

Day 231 – Saturday 19th August – back to Parkrun, I’ve missed far too many lately. Hopefully I won’t miss any more now. I’m aiming to reach 100 Parkruns by Christmas. Olympian James Cracknell was there scanning the barcodes. Apologies that it’s another pic of me – and a really bad one at that!

  1. OH jealous!!! I love James Cracknell, could even get me running if he’s the prize! Welcome to my varifocal world, we are not old though. Love Padstow, such a beautiful part of Cornwall isn’t it #365

My girl keeps asking to make slime…It’s something we haven’t got around to yet. I am sure we will soon.

    • Thanks very much, we always have a lovely holiday in Padstow!
I don’t know why kids love making slime so much, but it seems to keep my daughter out of mischief!

  3. Ahhh Padstow is the same as Scotland is to me and it always looks pretty every time you go! Love your glasses. If I needed glasses I’d definitely get ones like those. I keep meaning to make unicorn slime but thankfully z keeps forgetting!

    • Thanks, I’m really pleased with my glasses. I should be for the price (it turns out varifocals are really flipping expensive!).
You’ll have to show us if you make the slime!

  5. I’m so jealous of you meeting James Cracknell! I’m also rather jealous of your husband going from no training to running 12 miles, sounds like he’s ready for the HM already! I do hope your injury settles down and doesn’t bother you again.

    • Thanks, I’ve done three more eight miles runs since and no twinge! I’m in awe of my husband for his 12 miles! After doing the Three Peaks and Ride London he has no fear! A half marathon is a walk in the park compared to those. x

  6. Pleased to hear about the varifocals. I keep wondering about them, but it seems a bit daft as I would need plain glass for reading, so that doesn’t seem worth it. I have been thinking about having varifocal contacts which might make more sense as I sometimes struggle with my phone or reading with them in. I love the idea of you running with the kids cycling – lovely Padstow pics.

    • Thanks, Padstow is such a scenic place and it was lovely to run with the kids.
I wouldn’t have varifocals if I didn’t need them, the price is ridiculous!

    • Thanks, we had a really lovely week! There was a very big queue to get barcodes scanned by James Cracknell. The other volunteers must have been bored!
