This week I didn’t have my usual worries about whether I’d taken enough photos, whether I’d taken good enough photos or which photo I was going to choose. Because this week was about one thing and one thing only – knocking down the kitchen wall, in preparation for our new kitchen in a few weeks.
So here’s our week in pictures…
Day 18 – Sunday 18th January – this was my favourite picture of the day, even though it’s a bit quirky. Those are tiny icicles on the roof of my husband’s car.
Day 19 – Monday 19th January – work started on knocking our kitchen wall down in preparation for our new kitchen in spring. This is how it looked at the end of the day.
Day 20 – Tuesday 20th January – the kitchen wall is now down!
Day 21 – Wednesday 21st January – the steels are in,which means our house won’t collapse! Good news.
Day 22 – Thursday 22nd January – we now have an open plan kitchen and dining room! This was my first glimpse of it with most of the dust sheets gone.
Day 23 – Friday 23rd January – a very frosty morning! I took a few pictures in the garden before it was even properly light.
Day 24 – Saturday 24th January – Saturday morning in our family only ever means one thing – football! And when your son’s team wins 12-0, that’s worthy of a picture!

Really excited for you and your kitchen, mainly because I’ve just come out the other side and love it. Though living with brick dust isn’t fun! #365
January 25, 2015
Thanks very much! I’m looking forward to the end product, but dreading the process!
January 24, 2015
Love that first photo, you would have no idea that’s a car roof at all. Good luck with the kitchen work – sounds wonderful #365
January 25, 2015
Thanks very much! I thought I’d better put an explanation for the first photo!
January 24, 2015
Driving to work on Friday and all I wanted to do was stop the car and take pictures – it was so beautiful! Love the icicles and frost. I would love to be smashing down walls here and doing stuff on the house – I have plans but no pennies, am waiting for the OH’s business to make millions!! Ha ha! 🙂
January 25, 2015
Damn! We\re lucky that my husband’s business is going well (although not making millions!). The frost has been so beautiful over the last few days.
January 24, 2015
A new kitchen is very exciting. Looking forward to seeing the progress happening.
January 25, 2015
Thanks very much! We’ve got a few weeks off now before the work starts properly. Eeek!
January 24, 2015
I saw you were having the work done, I think you are very brave. I hope the dust isn’t too bad. I bet it will look amazing when the kitchen is finished x
January 28, 2015
Thanks very much! We’ve got a bit of wait now until it’s actually done, but I’m sure it will be worth it! x
January 24, 2015
Great pics. I especially love the close up icy shots, beautiful.xx
January 28, 2015
Thanks very much. They’re certainly more beautiful than smashed-up kitchen! x
January 24, 2015
Wow, that kitchen of yours will look awesome when it’s finished! I can’t wait to see it. Love the frost shots Sarah. It’s been so cold this week hasn’t it! x
January 28, 2015
Thanks very much, will definitely be sharing kitchen pics when it’s finished! It certainly has been cold. x
January 24, 2015
I’m desperate to get our kitchen done, how exciting for you! Love the mini icicles and the frosty shot, and well done to your sons team 🙂
January 28, 2015
Thanks very much! Prepare yourself for one of my famous sport blogposts… x
January 24, 2015
The kitchen should be great once it is finished, I love a big kitchen.
The pic of your hubbys car is great, the sort of mad thing I would take.
Thats a heavy frost for Friday, and good grief for the losing team at 12-0, but well done to son’s team.

Thanks very much, I can’t wait for the kitchen to be done. I took lots of pics that day, but there was something about the tiny icicles on the car that I like best of all! I did feel sorry for the losing team – we’ve been there before! It’s great to get such a big victory 🙂
January 24, 2015
I love the Friday frost image. Your kitchen is starting to take shape much quicker than I thought it would – looking forward to seeing the end result 🙂 #365
January 28, 2015
Thanks very much! We’ve got a little break now until the kitchen works start properly 🙂
January 25, 2015
Now this was an interesing set of images for me to see. We’re hopefully taking down a wall and opening up our kitchen in a few months. Now I can see how you keep the upper floors in place once the wall is taken down! This has been troubling me but all has been revealed thanks to your photos.
January 28, 2015
Glad it was useful! That’s a steel and it holds the house up, as you say! You need to get in touch with a structural engineer.
January 25, 2015
12 nil is a brilliant score. They must have been on cloud 9!! Hope the dust is not too annoying. It’ll be worth it in the end!
January 28, 2015
They certainly were! So was I! It was the best score they’d ever had 🙂
January 25, 2015
Can’t wait to see the finished kitchen. So glad our building work is out the way, for now
January 28, 2015
Thanks very much! I’m dreading the work, but looking forward to the finished product.
January 25, 2015
You can already see the difference taking down that wall has made. Will look amazing once you get the kitchen done.
January 29, 2015
Thanks very much! It will. I’m definitely liking the kitchen without the wall.
January 25, 2015
I am seriously excited for you and your new kitchen! Kitchens are my absolute favourite part of the house – so important to have one that you love! Love the ice on your hubby’s car – such a pretty shot. x
January 29, 2015
I’ve never been that keen on kitchens, probably because I’ve never had a nice one! Thanks very much.
January 25, 2015
Looking forward to seeing the finished kitchen and what an amazing victory from your son’s team!
January 29, 2015
Thanks very much! The victory was a very proud moment for me.
January 25, 2015
Big well done to your son’s team on an excellent win! I hate all works at home and having strangers and noise, as it’s always longer than planned, but thinking of a nice new kitchen would keep me sane. Our kitchen is so dated, I’d love to demolish it altogether and rebuild from scratch. Love the 1st photo, most unusual
January 29, 2015
Thanks very much. You’re very right about building works always being noisy and taking longer than expected, but the end result should be worth it!
January 25, 2015
Love this pics. We knocked down a wall and installed a new kitchen just after we moved in 2.5 years ago. best thing we ever did.

January 25, 2015
Love the frosty pictures and the renovations look promising!
January 25, 2015
12-0?! That sounds like a rugby score, not a football score! Kitchen is already starting to look very promising. Bet you can’t wait to get it all finished! x
January 30, 2015
I know, what an amazing score! The kitchen is starting to feel like a reality now and not as scary as it seemed at first! x
January 25, 2015
Fab photos! I can’t wait to see the completed kitchen! So exciting x
January 25, 2015
oooooh a new kitchen is sooo exciting and i cannot wait to see the end result 🙂 our house is full of dust from the lounge work – but it will be worth it i keep telling myself

January 25, 2015
Love the icicle shot and 12-0 is a pretty impressive score and definitely worthy of a pic! Glad to see the beginning of the kitchen makeover went quite smoothly x
