Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Roberts Giuffre

Nobody’s Girl is the autobiography of Virginia Roberts Giuffre – perhaps the most prominent victim of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and also the girl trafficked to have sex with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, then Prince Andrew.

It was published in October 2025 – six months after Virginia’s tragic death by suicide after a lifetime of trauma. I wanted to read it on publication, but couldn’t justify spending £25 on it. Then Waterstones had a half price sale on hardbacks just after Christmas and I had £10 of Waterstones points saved up, so it cost me just £2.50! Coincidentally, I read it when Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested over his business dealings with Epstein. I hope that the investigations into that unearth some real evidence of his abuse of Giuffre.

Nobody’s Girl is easy to read in terms of the writing style and I devoured it in three days. But, be warned, the content is unsurprisingly tough to deal with. Images from the book are living rent-free in my head. Some of the descriptions of what Virginia went through are VILE. How human beings can treat another human being like that, especially a child, is beyond me. And they didn’t just do it to Virginia. They did it to countless other girls.

Virginia had a tough life from a very young age. The book doesn’t pull any punches or hold back on any of the detail. She was sexually abused by her father and a neighbour as a young child. Her mother neglected her and was either unaware or not bothered about what was happening to her daughter.

The abuse led to her behaving badly and taking drugs – so she was sent to a ‘tough-love treatment centre’ for teenagers, where there was no love. Abused girls were labelled whores by staff. There were a couple more incidents of rape before Virginia even encountered Epstein and Maxwell.

She was a very damaged and vulnerable girl – just the sort of girl Epstein and Maxwell preyed upon.

There has been a lot said about ‘the only person in jail for Epstein’s crimes is a woman’. Yes, many more people should be in jail. But Maxwell being in jail isn’t some sort of misogyny. Make no mistake, she was just as vile as Epstein. Their relationship reminded me of Brady and Hindley or Fred and Rose West. The presence of a woman meant girls were more trusting, but the descriptions of abuse were very much like those I’ve read about the Wests.

The book details the years spent with Epstein and Maxwell and being trafficked to other abusive men, including the former prince. It then goes on to describe her life since – her escape, her marriage and children, and her long fight for justice.

I learned a lot more about how Epstein used his power and money to escape justice.

The fight and the trauma took its toll mentally and physically. Despite saying she would never commit suicide, Virginia did attempt to take her own life more than once in 2022. Did she succeed in 2025? This statement really stuck out for me.

If you care about the treatment of women and children by some men and want to see women and children believed over people with money and power, you should read Nobody’s Girl. It’s a tough read, but I have no regrets about reading it and would recommend it to men and women alike.
