Those of you with good memories may recall that I am a finalist in the schooldays category of the MAD Blog Awards. As a special treat, all the finalists in all of the categories got to go to Legoland with their families for a day out! Clearly, this is very exciting.
We got out own exclusive showing of the new Chima 4D movie, which was great fun. Even if we did get drenched. And I got to say hello to lots of bloggers I’ve been chatting to for a long time but never actually met – Verily Victoria Vocalises Jennifer from Jennifer’s Little World Emily from Family Four Fun and the very funny Hannah from Mama Bear with Me
We had a photo taken with our kids and other halfs and then we went off to enjoy Legoland. WITH SPECIAL WRISTBANDS THAT GOT US STRAIGHT ONTO THE RIDES. We were like royalty, waltzing on and off the rides, jumping the queues, going on again. Just because we could. This is how to really enjoy a theme park. (We will of course now never enjoy a theme park again, because the bar has been set too high!)
We spent the day hanging out with lovely Emma from Crazy with Twins and her gorgeous family and went from ride to ride in a frenzy. We started at the Driving School, then the Boating School and then we were off… I lost count of how many things we went on and how many times. Because Emma’s 1 year old twins couldn’t go on some of the rides, most of our little group had to selflessly go on twice, just to make sure Emma and her husband both got a go.
We got drenched, we screamed, we laughed. And some of us moaned a bit because, however much we went on, they still wanted to go on more. We had a lovely day, but we still didn’t do everything.
The absolute highlight of the day was the new underwater ride, Atlantis. I had never heard of it before and had absolutely no idea what to expect. We got into a submarine and we were sailing underwater through fish. Big ones, small ones, massive ones and, oh my God, is that a shark? It’s another shark! And another one! And a ray! It really was amazing, to see these fish swimming around us and totally unexpected to me.
So I’d just like to say a big thank you to Legoland for having us, a big thank you to MAD Blog Awards for organising and a huge thank you to my readers for taking the time to vote for me and getting me to the finals in the first place.
And, as my younger son said, ‘Thank you, Mummy, for blogging!’ Without blogging we would never have been there. And without being a finalist in the MAD Blog Awards and having this amazing day, my family would still view my blog with a mixture of fear and mild distaste.
Going to Legoland was a great reward, but my family’s acceptance is priceless.
