Project 365 2018 Week 32

Week 3 of the summer holidays has been quite lonely. My kids don’t need me much any more. I haven’t had much work either, so I’ve been at a bit of a loose end.

Here’s our week in pictures…

Day 217 – Sunday 5th August – we only got back from Padstow yesterday and this morning we drove my younger son to Bristol airport to catch a flight to Inverness for a holiday with his best friend. My son flew alone, which was far more scary for me than for him. While we were in the area, we took the opportunity to track down two Gromits in Weston-super-Mare. It turned out to be a much longer drive than we had anticipated.

Day 218 – Monday 6th August – having injured my ankle at parkrun on Saturday, I’ve been taking it easy for a couple of days. I haven’t even reached my 10,000 steps since Friday! (I reach at least 15,000 every day.) Today I went for a short walk and the ankle seemed to be OK.

Day 219 – Tuesday 7th August – regular readers will know I photographed an attempted burglary recently. I got this letter from the police today about it.

Day 220 – Wednesday 8th August – a lonely day! My daughter went out for the day with her friend, my husband worked an extremely long day, my eldest got up very late and had work in the afternoon/ evening and my younger son is still on holiday. I spent a lot of time reading, which is very rare for me in the holidays.

Day 221 – Thursday 9th August – I managed my first run since injuring my ankle, only two miles. I’d planned to run 10 miles on Sunday in preparation for the Cheltenham half marathon, but I may have to wait another week for that. This week, with one son away, one out at work in the evenings and no lifts to give, I’ve been doing something I never do – watching TV! We’ve watched Mama Mia on DVD, Long Lost Family, European Championship athletics and swimming, The Big Life Fix and The Real Marigold Hotel.

Day 222 – Friday 10th August – I feel like I’ve been quite lazy this week. I haven’t had much work, life is easier with one child away and I’ve done less exercise with my bad ankle. I think it might be called ‘me-time’ or ‘self care’, but that sort of thing isn’t ‘me’ at all. Today I made up for it with a lot more work and all of the housework for the weekend. And it rained heavily all morning! Hopefully it will help the garden.

Day 223 – Saturday 11th August – our third new parkrun in as many weeks! We went to Eastville parkrun in Bristol, on our way to pick my son up from the airport. My son enjoyed his holiday and it’s lovely to have him home.

  1. Hope your foot improves before you go for very long runs again. Catching up on TV is one of life’s pleasures. I’ve been watching The Ministry of Time on Netflix in the last couple of weeks, and enjoying it a lot.
    Gromit looks very colourful.
We’ve also got plenty of rain, which is so welcome after the heat, the garden definitely needs it.

    • Thanks very much! I’m keeping my fingers crossed about my foot. A week ago I couldn’t even put weight on it, so it has improved a lot, but I don’t know if it’s strong enough for a longer run yet. That is the most colourful Gromit we’ve seen so far! It’s been raining a lot today too, it will be nice to see some green grass.

  2. Ahh! I have had a week where my kids haven’t needed me much either. I wrote about it in my Word of the Week post. It’s a bit rubbish that they grow up so quickly.
I hope your son has a fab holiday. Thos gromits are fab.
I’m glad your ankle is feeling better. For you I imagine it would be a nightmare being injured as you like to run.
Oh wow! You have watched a lot of TV. I do love Long Lost Family. I always cry.

    • I’ve never seen Long Lost Family before! We watch very little TV, but I will definitely look out for it again. Glad I’m not the only one whose kids haven’t needed them. It’s a strange thing. My son is back now, so I should be a bit busier over the coming week.

  3. Hope the ankle’s doing ok now. I’m the opposite to you. Rarely get to 10k steps but this week I’ve managed 8 days on the trot with over 11k! Back to normal today though, with only 7k (and we did food shopping and picnicked in the park, so did go out and about a bit!)

    • The ankle is a lot better, but not 100%. I’m hoping I can do a long run next week. I’m a real fidget, I never stop moving around!

    • It really isn’t! When it’s planned I do enjoy it, but I’ve felt a bit like a spare part this week!

    • We don’t get to watch all the box sets everyone else watches because we don’t have Netflix. My ankle is feeling a lot better, thanks, so I’m hoping I can get back to full training this week. x

  7. Glad your son had a good time, I bet that was strange to let him fly alone. Hope your ankle is on the mend now. I do love all the Gromit’s you’ve found. We found two snowdogs when we visited Suzanne, I was very excited! #365

    • It was very strange letting him fly alone. He was totally chilled about it, though. The Snowdogs look lovely. I’m still trying to work out if we’ve got time to find all of the Gromits. We’re so close to completion, it seems a shame not to find them all.

    • The ankle is feeling a lot better now, so hopefully I will be back on track with half marathon training this week. I enjoy watching films at the cinema, but can’t usually manage them at home. We put Mama Mia on early because it was mainly for my daughter’s benefit, so I did manage to stay awake!

  9. It must be frustrating having to be careful and take it slow but it really is best to avoid further damage! Hope you are getting back to normal now… #project365

  10. Hope you are able to run that training run soon. A quiet week physically was probably what you needed. I love that your son got to go on the plane alone. I’d like to do this with my son on the train some day to see his cousins, but I think we will have to wait a little while for that.
