My daughter loves wearing dresses, so she was very pleased when House of Fraser offered her a choice from their range of girls’ dresses.
They have a huge range of styles and something for everyone from babies to teenagers. I’ll be honest, I was a little gobsmacked when she chose yellow! Yellow is a funny colour to wear and can easily look wrong. I was also surprised that she chose lace, something she’s never chosen before, but I wasn’t about to influence her decision. It was her choice!
She chose the Yumi Girls floral lace party dress, which comes with a lovely floral belt. We went for age 11-12, so she would have a bit of growing room, so it’s slightly big on her at the moment. Kids do have a tendency to grow a lot in the summer and I felt if we ordered 9-10 it might not even see her through to the end of summer.
Well, I’m pleasantly surprised to say that the dress is a lot nicer than I’d expected. The yellow is a slightly softer shade than it looked online and much more forgiving to the complexion. The lace too was nothing like I’d imagined – it was very soft and not hard and scratchy like I imagine lace to be.
And I’m even more pleased to say that she looked lovely in it! She tried the dress out with a green cardigan and sparkly shoes she’d bought for herself from Next (people know how much she loves clothes, so always give her Next vouchers for Christmas and birthday). That looked nice, but her navy cardigan (also from Next) looked even better! Navy and yellow is a great combination and a really classic summer colourway. I thought we’d try to give the dress a bit more edge with her new navy Superdry trainers. She wasn’t sure that it worked, but I thought it was a great way of dressing it down.
So it turns out that yellow can be a good colour for a dress, after all! I think my daughter will be getting a lot of wear out of this during spring and summer.
We were sent a dress for the purposes of this post. All opinions are our own.
