Kitting out the ensuite bathroom

We’ve been in our house just over four years now and it doesn’t feel like there’s ever been a time when we haven’t had some sort of job either going on or looming over us.

There was the big bathroom and the kitchen. The small bathroom. The spare room. The garden project.

Over the last couple of months, we’ve done a bit of an update of the younger kids’ bedrooms, so that they have space for desks.

And now it’s finally time for the THE BIG ONE. The one I’ve wanted done ever since we moved in. The one which has always been a carrot dangling in front of my face. A carrot that sometimes got tantalisingly close, only to be snatched away by minor details like not having enough money.

Regular readers will know that I’m talking about THE ENSUITE.

I have moaned about my ensuite many times before. It is pink and dates back to the 1980s, when the house was built. It has disability handrails and a shower that doesn’t work. It has a pointlessly large bath, which is full of cobwebs and dust, because what is the point of cleaning something you don’t use and is going to be replaced soon(ish)?

It is so horrible that if it was a public toilet, you would walk back in and out again. But it’s my bathroom. Attached to my bedroom.

And the toilet stopped working about nine months ago.

Within the next few days, all being well, work is actually going to start on replacing the bathroom. I still can’t believe it’s actually going to happen. Within a month, I will have a bathroom. I can use my shower instead of the shower in the main bathroom. And if I need the toilet in the middle of the night, I can actually use my own toilet!

Everything from tiles to the shower cubicle is currently boxed up and waiting for work to begin.

When the bathroom is finished, we will want to use it straightaway, so we’re going to need a few bits and pieces – from a toilet brush to towels to a shower mat. We’ve looked at a far few websites over the last few days and there is a really good selection at Lions Home.

Our bathroom is going to be tiled nearly all over with our favourite white metro tiles, with dark grey floor tiles. So we can stick with a monochrome colour scheme for our accessories or go for pretty much any colour to brighten the place up. I found a huge choice of bathroom accessories at Lions Home, I had no idea there was so many options for soap dispensers, with matching soap dishes, toothbrush holders and toilet brushes. There’s a huge choice of shower mats too. And we will definitely be needing an organiser for the shower to keep the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner tidy.

I now need to decide what colour we want for everything from the towels to the shower mat, so that our ensuite bathroom is fully kitted out and ready to use as soon as it’s ready.

But you know what colour I won’t be using anywhere in the bathroom, don’t you?

Pink.
