Project 365 2017 Weeks 44 & 45

It’s been a busy couple of weeks with a German exchange boy here, as well as the usual rushing around.

Here’s our fortnight in pictures…

Day 280 – Sunday 29th October – my daughter had a very busy half-term and she rounded it off with one final, unexpected invitation to go out with a friend. My son had a football match – a 3-3 draw this time. My daughter has finally concluded that she can’t take all of her books to school every day, so she left herself this reminder.

Day 281 – Monday 30th October – I don’t like changing the clocks and the dark evenings, but the lighter mornings are welcome. My eldest and my daughter set off for school, then we got an email to say my younger son’s school was closed due to lack of water. It affected a lot of schools, and a lot of houses, in town. My son was overjoyed!

Day 282 – Tuesday 31st October – Halloween was frantic with lifts for the boys, but my daughter at least got to dress up and hang out with her little cousins.

Day 283 – Wednesday 1st November – my younger son’s German exchange boy arrived. He will be with us for just over a week. He is very nice and speaks very good English, thank goodness! This photo was taken for work. Sometimes we don’t have the photos we need to illustrate stories on file, so I improvise at home.

Day 284 – Thursday 2nd November – we went bowling in the evening and the German boy won, although it was our closest game ever.

Day 285 – Friday 3rd November – I spotted this in the centre of Cheltenham. I’m not sure why I hadn’t seen it before because it must have been painted a couple of months ago in the Cheltenham Paint Festival (and I still want to go and see more of the art!)

Day 286 – Saturday 4th November – a busy day with Parkrun, then my son’s rugby match, then a lovely reception to welcome the German kids to school. The afternoon tea was incredible! In the evening we went to Cheltenham Racecourse to watch the fireworks. They have the best fireworks in the area and it was great for the German boy to see as he’d never been to a professional display before.

Day 287 – Sunday 5th November – a day when I seemed to do nothing but rush around after other people. I did manage to snap the light shining through the autumn leaves.

Day 288 – Monday 6th November – the first frosty morning of the year, which just reminded me how much I hate the cold. I couldn’t get warm all day, despite wearing a coat and my hood indoors. Yes, I will moan about the cold, the dark and winter in general for the next three months.

Day 289 – Tuesday 7th November – an evening with even more lifts than usual. The weather was milder, but wet and I took this very autumnal photo.

Day 290 – Wednesday 8th November – my son and the German boy had a trip to Bristol with school. My eldest forgot his gumshield and boots for his school rugby match. I was initially cross, but then I realised it gave me a chance to watch the game. It was so good to see him playing again after nearly three years away from rugby.

Day 291 – Thursday 9th November – I attempted to go for a run after a few days resting from an injury and I couldn’t physically do it! I’ve never had an injury stop me in my tracks before. Made an appointment with a physio for Monday. I hate it when I can’t run. In the evening I took the two younger kids and the German boy to a new indoor golf place in Cheltenham.

Day 292 – Friday 10th November – the German boy went home this morning. It’s been great having him around and I think we are all going to miss him. I’m cheating a bit with this photo as I took it yesterday. He decided not to use the drawers in his bedroom! I wasn’t fazed by the mess as I’m used to teenage boys and their untidiness and it was all gone this morning.

Day 293 – Saturday 11th November – I’ve got an injury, so couldn’t run Parkrun. I’ve set myself the target of 100 Parkruns by Christmas, so I decided to walk. I’ll be honest, it wasn’t a lot of fun, but at least I completed it.

    • It’s been lovely having the German boy here. It’s a shame you don’t have the space, but I’m sure a lot of people are in the same boat.
I have physio tomorrow and my fingers are firmly crossed for a fast recovery!

    • Thanks very much! I think I just caught the tree at a good time with the light shining through it. I did lots of exchanges as a kid, so my kids were always going to do them too! It was a very positive experience for us all.

  4. I was a tiny bit shocked to see so much frost on my windscreen in the morning this week, even though it’s expected really. I don’t like darker days either but glad we have a bit more sunlight for now. You’ve had a busy two weeks!!

    • You might be lucky with Monkey’s bedroom! My boys were definitely making a lot of mess well before they were his age! I’ve been to a physio and she doesn’t think the injury is too bad, so I’m hoping it will be better in a week or two!

  9. Hope that injury clears up soon. Seems strange that the German boy had never been to a fireworks display. Maybe we have more occasions for fireworks in the country. It’s always manic here in Brum with Diwali and Fireworks night running back to back.

    • Maybe the obsession with fireworks is more of a British thing? Apparently the only time they have them in Germany is at new year. I’ve still got the injury 🙁
