Leotard and jazz shoes from Dance Depot

Well, panto rehearsals are well underway and my daughter is very happy to have all the right gear, thanks to Dance Depot!

She is currently rehearsing six days a week in preparation for the opening of the show at the start of December. After that, she will be performing two shows a day, three days a week, for five weeks. So she needs to have really comfortable, hard-wearing and easily washable dancewear.

Although she is in the chorus of a professional panto, they do require that the girls provide their own basics – black leotard, black jazz shoes and natural coloured dance tights. These items are her base and she wears all of her costumes on top of them – sometimes more than one costume at a time, if she’s required to do a quick change! My daughter doesn’t use any of these items in her usual dance classes, so it was great that Dance Depot was able to help us out.

Having worn a stretchy and shiny leotard last year, my daughter decided she’d like a cotton one this year. They can feel more comfortable and breathable than the manmade materials. From the huge selection of children’s leotards, she opted for the Capezio Double Strap Camisole Leotard, which also comes in lilac and white, in large size. The front is a simple design and it has a pretty strap design at the back. Most importantly for my daughter, it fits well and it is comfortable!

It is obviously a very popular choice, as several of the girls in the chorus have the exact same leotard.

It’s OK for my daughter to wear ballet shoes at rehearsals, but she was happy to have jazz shoes to wear right from the start. Dance Depot has a good selection of jazz shoes, including laces or elasticated, full sole or split sole and leather or suede, in a range of colours. My daughter stuck with leather lace-ups and chose the Capezio full sole jazz shoes. She is around a 3.5 or 4 in school shoes, but we know that jazz shoes tend to come up small, so we opted for a size 4.5, which were a really good fit. We’re very grateful that Dance Depot was also kind enough to send us a size 5 too, just in case! I’m sure these will come in very handy in the future.

The final panto essential for my daughter are the Bloch Kids Endura Footed Tights, in light tan, in size large. These are a very good fit and comfortable to wear.

We were sent these items from Dance Depot for the purposes of this review. All opinions are our own.

    • The rehearsals are going really well, thanks. Leotards used to be just like plain swimsuits in our day, but there’s literally hundreds of designs to choose from these days!
