  1. I see this photo and can’t help wondering if you managed to stay on two feet while taking it?? I’d have ended up on the floor! Hope you all had fun

    • We did, thanks! Remarkably I didn’t fall over, but I was skating very slowly. We’ve finally found something my daughter isn’t very good at!

    • That’s a shame nobody will go with you! They’re all spoilsports!

  2. I love ice skating but find it frustrating taking Isaac – he is like a baby spider on rollerskates. Eliza on the other hand is a natural!

    • Ha ha, my daughter surprised me as she wasn’t very good at all. It was hard work keeping her upright for 45 minutes!

    • Thanks. It’s very rare for us to go as there is no rink near us, but we all enjoyed this. x

  4. We’ve always wanted to give this a go but one of us would end up injured

    Thank you for linking up

    • We really enjoyed it and only my son fell over (and he didn’t get injured, thank goodness!).

  5. I love ice skating, it looks like you found the perfect rink. I love the bobble hat too, the perfect accessory for ice skating.

    • Thanks, I think she looks very cool in her hat! We don’t go ice skating very often, but always enjoy it when we do it.

  6. I used to love ice skating when I was younger but despite having an ice rink in the next town we have never been as a family. I would be far too scared of falling over and never getting back up again. Hope you all managed to stay upright x

    • Oh dear! I always think it’s easier than I expect. My son fell over, but only because he was being brave and throwing himself around!

  8. Funnily enough a photo of Grace learning to ice skate came up on my timehop yesterday! They are all far braver than me – I hate it!! Great photo 🙂 #mysundayphoto

    • My daughter was surprisingly bad at it! I was all for skating fast, but I had to hold her up!

  10. This is totally the way I skate too. We had a rink in Norwich but I thought Freya was a bit young. Maybe she can hang on to the sides with me next year 🙂 Lovely memories. #MySundayPhoto

    • We really enjoyed it, but my daughter needed to hang on to the sides most of the time!

  11. Happy to see that they’re holding on… it’s the safest place to be! Happy Sunday Sarah x

  12. Love ice skating – we’ve been a few times this winter. Lucky you got a picture, at Winter Wonderland we weren’t allowed cameras/phones on the ice! x

    • It’s probably not sensible to take cameras or phones on the ice! Luckily my daughter was so slow that I thought I was probably safe to take a few photos.

  13. I used to love skating when I was young, haven’t been for years. We’ve never taken the kids, really must try this year!

    • We haven’t been often and my daughter found it quite hard. They have push-along/ ride-on seals for little ones, which was great for my little niece.

  14. I have not been on skates since I was a child! I fell over 2 minutes in and never put a pair on again haha. Well done them x

  15. Fab time out I hope. Bet she it was very different to dancing.

I love skating, but the last time I took N was a tad frustrating because he just wanted to sit on the seal skating aid, rather than giving it a go. It’s also hard taking photos when you’re the only one there with them, unlesss they’re older and can go a bit away from you.

Maybe next year we’ll give it another go

    • My niece was on a seal, but she’s only 3, so it was the safest place for her! My daughter was so slow that it wasn’t too hard for me to take photos. I was surprised at how difficult she found it – I thought a dancer would just be able to do it!

    • She did enjoy it, but she couldn’t skate without holding my hand or onto the side! Only my son actually fell over though because he just throws himself in at 100mph!

  18. I took the boys ice skating when we visited the Eden Project in October and after a shaky start they really enjoyed it. I opted to watch from the side and offer lots of encouraging words! I also can relate to you saying that you have found something your daughter isn’t so good at, we have a similar issue with our older son although he cracked ice skating LOL

    • My eldest, who is generally the least physically able of my kids, threw himself in and did really well, but my daughter surprised me by being very wobbly!
