I get a fair few things offered for review – most of which I turn down. I don’t see the point in accepting something for review that we don’t need. But sometimes something comes along that is perfect.
We were offered a copy of Hotel Kids Only Amsterdam – a book about Amsterdam for children, which is full of puzzles and activities to keep children amused while they’re travelling or sat in their hotels. As we were going to Amsterdam ourselves, it seemed like a great thing for my daughter to get her excited about the holiday and to learn something about the city before we set off.
Written by Charlotte Borgrevve, an Amsterdam resident, it was inspired by the tourists round the city. She wanted to give children some fun while their parents explored. Ingrid Robers’ illustrations really bring the city to life in a fun way.
The book is illustrated in a lovely cartoon style and there’s plenty to keep busy.
Thanks to the book, my daughter recommended that we visit the zoo – Artis Zoo – and Wester Tower, both of which proved to be really good recommendations!
Over to my daughter, to tell you what it’s all about:
This book is interesting and it’s got fun activities. There is a bird that travels through the book and tells you what to do.
It tells you what good things there are to do in Amsterdam – there’s a map with all the good places on it. There’s jokes (which aren’t all that funny!). There’s lots to do and colour and puzzles. There’s translations into Dutch language and Dutch songs to sing. You can cut out postcards and send them to your friends and family.
Hotel Kids Only is a good book for around 7-11 year olds. It would probably appeal more to girls, but some boys would like it too.
