The Gallery: Summer

In many ways, I haven’t enjoyed this summer holiday as much as usual. Apart from actually going on holiday to Padstow, it’s just drifted past. We haven’t really done anything and we certainly haven’t made the most of the break and our time together. It felt like the first two weeks were over in the blink of an eye and the rest of it has just drifted along. Maybe it’s because I’ve been struggling to work, maybe it’s because the kids are older or maybe it’s the way the weather turned from too hot to too wet and cold with no in-between. Who knows? But it hasn’t felt like the best. The kids haven’t seen their friends, because when we’re away their friends are at home and when we’re at home, their kids are away.

But we had a lovely week in Padstow – even though it marked the first week of the colder weather. We got our guinea pigs, who have made us all very happy. My sons went on Scout camp, which they enjoyed, even though my younger son opted to come home early. My younger son has done some football training, as well as a bit of work for his grammar school entrance exam in two weeks’ time.

But, best of all, we’ve had a break from routine and pressure. We haven’t had to be out the house for 8.30, we haven’t had homework and we haven’t had endless rushing around to dance classes, eating microwave meals because we don’t even have time to cook.

So it might not have been the best and most exciting summer holiday. But it’s been a break from the norm. And that’s good enough for us.

  1. Love this photo. It’s nice just to be off the school routine for awhile. We had a week in Blackpool and then enjoyed the lovely weather at home. Now we’re back to the school routine, I’m missing lazying about all day lol.

    • I think I will miss it at first, but will probably be glad to get back to normal once we’re used to it!

  3. Lovely shot. I think there is a lot to be said for how much relaxation a break from routine offers.

  4. Lovely photo – looks so peaceful (I always find if mine stand slightly apart and not speaking that’s when life is most peaceful too!)
Just stepping off the treadmill and not having to set the alarm is so lovely.

  5. That is a greeeeat photo. Just lovely. And love your honesty. The school holidays can be bloody tough – especially if you’re trying to work too. I’ve been working in the evenings, which means late to bed and grumpy about 3pm when I dip.
You’re doing a grand job my friend x

    • Thanks very much 🙂 I feel I’ve let myself and the kids down a bit this holiday, but they’ve been happy enough. We just need to find a new normal. x
